A man quietly walked into a Fort Lauderdale Citibank Friday morning, showed a teller a note implying he had a weapon and then simply walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Hugging the warm, sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, the hundreds of miles of natural and artificial waterways give Fort Lauderdale its nickname "Venice of America." The city boasts a semi-tropical climate characterized by plentiful sunshine and pleasant ocean breezes. Greater Fort Lauderdale's 23 miles of beaches feature a palm tree and brick-lined beachfront promenade. Las Olas Boulevard is Fort Lauderdale's main entertainment district, running from downtown to the beach and featuring such venues as the "Elbo Room," the bar made famous by its appearance in the 1960 film "Where the Boys Are."
